Cloud Control: Digital Forensic Services in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

Category: Data Recovery Fromadmin @ 11:06 pm

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 07, 2012

In the five years to 2012, IBISWorld estimates that revenue for the Digital Forensic Services industry will grow at an annualized rate of 13.7% to $ 878.0 million. The industry has benefited from growth in the number of mobile internet connections and a rise in the percentage of households with at least one computer. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Kevin Culbert, consumers are living more of their lives online, causing the amount of electronically stored information (ESI) to rise exponentially. An increasing amount of ESI is expected to contribute to revenue growth of 9.2% in 2012. Furthermore, IBISWorld estimates that the number of mobile internet connections in the United States will increase 28.8% to 155.6 million in 2012. This factor is also expected to boost industry demand during the year.

As total ESI has risen, an increasing number of digital forensic service providers have entered the industry. IBISWorld estimates that the number of firms operating in the industry has increased at an average of 14.8% annually to 1,405 in the five years to 2012. Industry operators provide data recovery services and investigative support of phishing schemes (attempted acquisition of personal information by falsely acting as an established, trustworthy entity), bank fraud and child exploitation cases. The industry also provides data recovery from encrypted and erased files, including emails and passwords.

IBISWorld projects that revenue for the Digital Forensic Services industry will increase during the five years to 2017. According to Culbert, the industry will continue to benefit from the rising amount of ESI, which will boost potential demand for services. Industry firms will benefit as tools become more standardized and automation reduces the amount of manual labor required for digital forensic services. Nevertheless, the industry will continue to be challenged by the expansion of cloud computing, which allows information to be manipulated, stored and processed from multiple computers. This trend and the recent fragmentation of computer operating systems have threatened industry margins. Over the next five years, market share concentration is anticipated to increase (at the top of the market) as digital forensic services firms grow to become more attractive acquisition targets for larger consulting and software companies in related supply chains. AccessData and Global Digital Forensics are two significant players within the industry.

Global Earth Day diverts 225 tonnes of e-waste from landfill

Category: Recoveradmin @ 11:55 am

(PRWEB) May 20, 2012

Joining the one billion people around the globe already taking part in various Earth Day activities, over 2000 people participated. They cleared unwanted or broken items of electrical and electronic equipment out of their sheds, lofts, cupboards and garages and brought them along to Sims electronics recycling facilities, to be responsibly recycled completely free of charge.

The events took place over Earth Day weekend at the companys electronics waste recycling facilities in North America, Austria, Belgium, Germany, India, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden and the UK with a total of 225.4 tonnes of e-waste collected and diverted from landfill.

The purpose of the Earth Day collection events was to promote awareness of the need to recycle redundant electrical and electronic equipment all over the world.

Sims Recycling Solutions Global CEO, Graham Davy, said: Our Earth Day message is very simple. We urgently need to start retrieving a lot more of the finite resources of materials – such as precious metals – which are contained in electronics waste, than we are doing at present. By doing this, we can re-use these resources and protect the environment from the harmful emissions which arise from mining virgin metal ore or unnecessarily manufacturing new supplies of materials such as plastics.

At Sims in Ballito, South Africa, 240 people turned out with their e-waste and held a beach clean- up. Local schools also entered a competition to win refurbished PCs provided by Sims Recycling Solutions.

In North America, 25 Earth Day events were held, 472,985 pounds of electronic waste was collected and over1300 people dropped off material

In India, the Earth Day event was held in a shopping mall in Bangalore, attracting more than 400 people who were provided with information on e-waste recycling.

In Sweden, the event was held in in partnership with Sims local waste management company and a competition was held to guess the weight of the material collected.

In Germany, Sims donated 1 for every kilo of e-waste collected, providing a donation of 5000 to a local school to buy computer equipment.

In Austria, Sims donated 1500 to the local kindergarten amounting to 5 per kg collected.

In the UK, four events took place with one event being attended by Chris Heaton-Harris Conservative MP for Daventry. A survey was conducted to measure awareness of e-waste recycling.

All items collected were recycled to the highest international quality standards at Sims Recycling Solutions facilities around the world, recovering the precious metals and other materials.

Graham Davy concluded: “Earth Day is all about people coming together across the globe to voice their appreciation for the planet and demand its protection. This provided us with the perfect opportunity to hold our first ever international e-waste recycling event in nine countries, spanning four continents. I would like to thank everyone, all over the world, who took part. By doing so you have helped us promote the very important cause of responsible e-waste recycling.

For further information and specific information on Earth Day activities in individual countries, contact Jacqui Simpson 00 44 (0)1789 722042 or email Jacqui(dot)simpson(at)simsmm(dot)com

The fruits of my stupidity

Check out these undelete images:

The fruits of my stupidity

This is not photoshop. This is an accident.

I deleted about 50 photos that were sorted through and ready to upload.

As soon as I realized my mistake I got online and found an undelete utility.

The app recovered this photo and turned it all crazy! That made me feel better.

headquarters

This is the headquarters of a large company, part of a very, very large office building. After I took it, a very large man wearing a suit, mustache and earpiece asked me what I was doing. I explained that I was taking pictures of the building for Wikipedia. He hadn’t heard of it. He asked if I had permission; I said that I didn’t. He told me that I’d have to delete the photos, as they were a security threat. I explained that I had been on public property, but he pointed out that I’d set foot on their steps to take this one. I deleted the pictures, drove home, and used dosfsck to undelete them. I wasn’t going to post this, but I think now I’m morally obligated to. Take that, security theater!

As a footnote, I would be much obliged if someone could explain to me precisely how this picture poses a security threat of any sort to anyone at all; if someone has a good reason, I’d be more than happy to remove it.

This image is also on Wikipedia.
